Reflective solar window film at middle school in Germany

Improving classroom comfort with smart solar protection

Making a print firm’s new building stand out with facade renovation at Material Solutions

The challenge

Classrooms in a middle school in Fehmarn, Germany experienced significant overheating and glare due to numerous large windows and abundant sunlight. While the school already had external sun protection, coastal winds often made these systems unreliable. A more consistent and low-maintenance solution was needed.

The solution

The school chose Avery Dennison R Silver 35X™, a high-performance reflective solar window film that reduces solar heat and glare while maintaining a bright and natural look indoors. Its reflective surface blocks excess sunlight, helping to keep classrooms cooler and more comfortable. The film is especially well-suited for large windows and outdoor conditions, offering long-term durability and strong performance without affecting the building’s appearance.

The results

After the first classrooms were treated in 2023, the improvements were clear: better temperature control, less glare, and a more pleasant learning environment. Thanks to these results, additional rooms were completed in 2024 and 2025—now totaling over 450 m² of installed film. Teachers and students noticed the difference right away, and plans for expanding the installation are already underway.
