SkyLite 20 XTRM PRO Enhances Comfort and Efficiency at Barcelona Airport

Making a print firm’s new building stand out with facade renovation at Material Solutions

The challenge

The Mossos d’Esquadra police station, located within the Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat Airport in Spain, was facing significant solar heat issues due to large overhead and sloped glazing surfaces. Excessive solar gain not only reduced interior comfort but also increased reliance on air conditioning, raising energy costs and the building’s environmental footprint. A long-lasting and high-performance solar control solution was required—one that could withstand the unique challenges of exterior skylight installation in an aviation environment.

The solution

To address these challenges, the project’s owner, Urbia Intermediación Ingeniería Y Servicios Sa, turned to a specialized window film installer, Sol Film, who proposed the application of SkyLite 20 XTRM PRO solar control window film. Known for its exceptional durability and performance in demanding skylight applications, SkyLite 20 XTRM PRO was installed across the glass surfaces to reduce solar heat gain while maintaining the building’s aesthetics. The product's 10-year warranty and proven performance made it the clear choice over competing solutions.

The results

Following the installation, the police station experienced a significant reduction in solar heat transmission, improving the comfort and reducing cooling demands. The film’s neutral finish blended seamlessly with the building’s architecture, enhancing both performance and appearance.
