According to research from the Skin Cancer Foundation, skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in the United States, and incidence rates continue to rise. The number of new melanoma diagnoses is predicted to increase by 5.9% this year. When skin cancers are found and removed early, they are treatable and often curable. When melanoma is detected early, the five-year survival rate is about 99% in the U.S. The Skin Cancer Foundation recommends monthly head-to-toe self-exams and annual professional exams by a dermatologist.
